Tofu
Feels like I’m touching someone’s flesh in some ways
Under that warm skin it’s like a heart is beating and blood is flowing like something may wake soon from a deep sleep
It feels like I could restore all the time that’s vanished in a moment’s touch but
The tofu cools
calmly, as if it has already experienced death several times over
With a hand that’s rested on a chest growing cold, a hand that’s held and shaken a body already stiffened
I touch the tofu
I’m touching the final moments of a time that no longer exists, a warmth that cannot be conveyed
Slowly we grow apart
I keep touching the tofu for a while and
feels like blood cooling down and breath growing still, feels like placing a hand on the lingering of a soul soon to depart
It’s a terrible sensation, a time again in critical condition
I am touching
I am stroking the eyelids of a vanished time
두부
아무래도 누군가의 살을 만지는 느낌
따듯한 살갗 안쪽으로 심장이 두근거리고 피가 흐르는 것 같다 곧 깊은 잠에서 깨어날 것 같다
순간의 촉감으로 사라진 시간을 복원할 수 있을 것 같은데
두부는 식어간다
이미 여러 차례 죽음을 경험한 것처럼 차분하게
차가워지는 가슴에 얹었던 손으로, 이미 견고해진 몸을 붙잡고 흔들던 손으로
두부를 만진다
지금은 없는 시간의 마지막을, 전해지지 않는 온기를 만져보는 것이다
점점 사이가 멀어진다
두부를 오래 만지면
피가 식어가고 숨소리가 고요해지는 느낌, 곧 떠날 영혼의 머뭇거림에 손을 얹는 느낌
이것은 지독한 감각, 다시 위독의 시간
나는 만지고 있다
사라진 시간의 눈꺼풀을 쓸어내리고 있다

유병록은 1982년 충북 옥천의 시골 마을에서 태어나고 자라 동물들과 자연스레 어울리며 컸다. 2010년 동아일보 신춘문예에 시가 당선되면서 등단하여 작품 활동을 시작했다. 현재는 경기도 일산에서 글을 쓰며, 시집 『목숨이 두근거릴 때마다』, 『아무 다짐도 하지 않기로 해요』, 『그립소』그리고 산문집 『안간힘』을 냈다. 김준성문학상, 내일의 한국작가상을 수상해 한국 서정 시단의 미래를 빛낼 시인으로 주목받아왔다.
Yoo Byung Lock was born in 1982 in a small village in Okcheon County, South Korea, where he grew up alongside animals. He made his literary debut in 2010 when his work was selected by The Dong-a Ilbo’s annual spring literary contest. He currently resides in Ilsan where he writes and publishes books. He has written the poetry collections Whenever Your Life Pulses, Let’s Not Make Any Resolutions, and I Miss You, Cow, as well as the short story collection Endeavor. He has received the Kim Junseong Literary Award and Tomorrow’s Korean Writer Award, which has gained him attention as a leader in Korean lyric poetry.
